IRGC hails Gaza truce as ‘irreparable defeat’ for Israel, great victory for Palestinians
“Today, the end of the war and the imposition of a ceasefire on the Zionist regime is a clear ... great victory for Palestine and a bigger defeat for the monstrous Zionist regime,” the IRGC said in a statement on Thursday.
Addressing a press conference in Doha on Wednesday, Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani announced that Israel and the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas have agreed to a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, potentially bringing an end to the regime’s genocidal war in the besieged territory.
The ceasefire, mediated by Qatar and Egypt, will go into effect on Sunday and will last 42 days.
The ceasefire involves the withdrawal of the Israeli military from some areas of Gaza, and an exchange of Israeli hostages held by Hamas for Palestinians held in Israeli prisons, after which the terms of a broader peace deal would be finalized.
The IRGC offered congratulations on the victory of Hamas for imposing the ceasefire on the Israeli regime.
It said that just like Hamas Operation Al-Aqsa Flood, the Gaza ceasefire proved that the “evil” Israeli regime has failed to achieve its goals despite months of medieval crimes and genocide against the defenseless and oppressed Palestinian people.
The deal also showed that the resistance front will move towards the liberation of al-Aqsa Mosque and the occupied al-Quds with more strength, the statement added.
The Palestinian people’s resistance was a symbol and manifestation of "victory of right over wrong and blood over sword," it emphasized.
It said the Tel Aviv regime, fully supported by the US and its European and regional allies, was seeking to liberate the Israeli captives without negotiations and only through military operation, and to eliminate Hamas and return settlers to Gaza. However, the IRGC emphasized, Israel “gave in to exceptional patience of the hero people of Gaza and the ironwill of resistance.”
It said the end of Israel’s war and imposition of the ceasefire on the regime brought fear to the regime and joy to the steadfast people of Gaza.
The IRGC said the “butcher and bloodthirsty” head of the Israeli cabinet should now await a “torrent of criticism, protests, and internal divisions” following the ceasefire agreement.
Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has reportedly held up the cabinet vote on the ceasefire deal, other aspects of which include the return of Palestinians, who have been forcibly displaced by Israeli forces, to their homes across the Gaza Strip.
The ceasefire, among other things, will also see the facilitation of travel of people wounded by Israeli attacks and sick ones in order to receive treatment, as well as the positioning of Israeli forces across the Gaza border.
